💻 The Role

Data forms the backbone of Whatnot’s mission to unite people through commerce. The Data Platforms team crafts solutions that enhance our core product experience and empower stakeholders across the organization to make informed decisions.

As our newest Software Engineer, you will forge partnerships throughout the company and devise scalable solutions to address pressing business objectives. You will enhance our data architecture, unlock pivotal new use cases, and spearhead end-to-end initiatives leveraging software, data, and analytics.

In this role, you will:

• Drive critical decisions regarding data systems development at Whatnot and translate them into actionable results.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of our data platform architecture, shaping best practices and steering the team’s direction.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to design data applications for internal and external audiences, catering to various use cases such as machine learning, experimentation, and real-time analytics.
• Play a pivotal role in optimizing the entire data platform, including real-time logging solutions, analytics databases, data warehouse, metrics store, and more.

As our next software engineer, you should bring 3+ years of experience, coupled with:

• A track record of transforming complex data into actionable insights through end-to-end data product creation.
• Proficiency in implementing real-time and batch data pipelines with stringent SLOs and intricate transformation requirements.
• Expertise in data architecture and modeling concepts, such as Kimball or Data Vault.
• Experience managing cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, etc.) for data processing and serving.
• Strong partnership-building skills and the ability to coach and influence others to elevate data engineering practices.

In addition to these role-specific qualifications, you should possess:

• Familiarity with cloud platforms, with experience in at least one major provider (e.g., AWS).
• Proficiency in at least one server-side programming language (preferably Python), along with knowledge of common algorithms, data structures, and software design principles.
• Comfort with infrastructure-as-code approaches (e.g., Terraform).
• A self-starter mentality, thriving in environments that offer high autonomy.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities.

💰 Compensation

For US-based applicants: $153,000 – $235,000/year + benefits + stock options

Please note that the salary range encompasses various levels applicable to the position. The final salary will be determined based on factors such as level, prior experience, skills, and expertise. This range only includes base salary, excluding benefits and equity in the form of stock options.
